Real questions from real clients and prospective clients, answered plainly. Scan the categories or jump straight to what you need.
What it looks like to reach out, get matched, and show up for your first session.
Call us or use the contact form on any Shadetree page. A real team member will respond, usually within one business day, with next steps and counselor options that fit your situation.
In most cases, we can schedule a first session within a week. If your need is more urgent, tell our team on the first call and we will do our best to accelerate the process.
No. During the first call we help you figure out what kind of counseling fits best, whether that is individual, couples, family, or something else. Not knowing is a normal starting place.
Usually our intake team handles first calls and schedules you with the right counselor. If a clinical question comes up that needs a counselor's input, we loop them in.
Just yourself. Completed intake paperwork (sent before your appointment) helps, but is not required. Comfortable clothes, water, and any questions you want answered.
If you or someone you love is in immediate danger, please call 988 for the Suicide and Crisis Lifeline or 911. Shadetree is not a crisis service. We want you to get the right help right away.
What services Shadetree offers and how to figure out which one fits your situation.
Couples, individuals, families, and teens. We offer marriage, premarital, couples, relationship, family, teen, grief, and individual counseling. In-person in Central Florida and online across the state.
Marriage counseling is specifically for married couples. Couples counseling is available to any committed partnership, whether dating, engaged, or married. The techniques overlap significantly.
Some conditions and active addictions need specialized care beyond our scope. Your first session includes a fit check. If another level of care would serve you better, we will help you find it.
Absolutely. Many of the healthiest clients we see come because they want to grow, not because something is broken. Proactive counseling prevents small concerns from becoming larger ones.
It is more common than you think. You can start with individual counseling to work on your own growth. Often, when one person begins to change, others become more open. We are also happy to answer their questions before the first session.
Relationship counseling can be individual or joint with another important person in your life. Your counselor will help you decide what fits your goals.
How Christian faith shapes our work and how we care for clients from every background.
Not at all. Our counselors integrate faith and biblical wisdom when clients want that, and we welcome everyone regardless of background or belief. Our goal is to serve you with compassion and clinical skill wherever you are in your journey.
No. Shadetree is an independent Christian counseling practice. Our counselors come from diverse Christian backgrounds. Shadetree is not governed by any particular church.
Only with your permission and when it fits what you want in session. Faith practices are offered as a resource, never imposed.
You are welcome here. Doubt and questioning are part of many people's faith journeys. We make space for honest conversation without pressure or judgment.
It means your counselor treats your faith as a resource for healing. Scripture, prayer, and Christian frameworks may be used when helpful and welcomed. It never means preaching, pushing beliefs, or skipping the clinical work.
We integrate faith, clinical training, and temperament science in a way few practices do. We do not just manage symptoms. We help you understand the deeper patterns at work. And because we are Christ-centered, we believe real, lasting transformation is always possible.
Straight answers about the cost of care.
Session rates vary based on counselor credentials and session length. For current rates, please contact our team directly. We will walk you through the specifics on your first call.
We do not accept insurance. We do not use HSA or FSA. We do not offer superbills. Shadetree is a self-pay (cash-pay) practice.
Please reach out anyway. We reserve a limited number of reduced-rate slots for clients facing significant financial hardship, and we can point you to trustworthy resources if Shadetree is not the right financial fit.
What sessions look like, how long counseling typically takes, and what to expect along the way.
Standard sessions run fifty minutes. Some couples and families request longer sessions when schedules permit. Your counselor will help decide what fits.
Most clients start weekly and taper to biweekly or monthly as progress builds. Your counselor will adjust the rhythm with you.
Every person and situation is different. Some experience meaningful progress within 6-8 sessions. Others benefit from longer-term support. The pace is always guided by your needs.
Yes. Many clients mix in-person and online based on their schedule. We keep it flexible.
A safe space to share your story: your history, your struggles, and what you hope would be different. Your counselor listens carefully before building your plan.
Your counselor will check in on goals regularly and invite you to notice shifts inside and outside sessions. Real progress is usually gradual and shows up in patterns, not single moments.
How both options work at Shadetree and how to choose what fits you best.

How we match you with the right counselor and what kind of clinical training our team holds.

No. Our counselors cannot prescribe. If medication may be helpful, please consult a psychiatrist or primary care physician. We are glad to coordinate care with them as part of your plan.
How your information is protected and the practical details of working with Shadetree.
Yes. Counseling is private by design. We hold your information to strict professional and legal confidentiality standards. Exceptions are rare and legally required, and your counselor will explain them up front.
Only with your written permission or when required by law. Because Shadetree is a self-pay practice, your records are not shared with insurance carriers. We will discuss any sharing with you before it happens.
We ask for twenty-four hours notice on cancellations when possible. Life happens and we work with you. Repeated short-notice cancellations do incur a fee.
Spouses, parents, siblings, and friends can reach out with questions. The final decision to begin counseling rests with the person we will care for. We respect that line.
We can walk with you emotionally, but we cannot give legal advice or represent you in court. For legal matters, please consult a licensed attorney. We are glad to recommend attorneys if you need referrals.
Please bring it to us directly. You can contact the Shadetree office at any time. We take feedback seriously and want every client to feel respected and well cared for.
If your question is not here, send it our way. A Shadetree team member will reply, usually within one business day.
